Japan, 1542, a country in turmoil. The last shogunate has collapsed, leaving a nation divided into numerous factions, each led by a daimyo, a feudal warlord. Each daimyo is out to scheme, murder, and wage war to become supreme ruler. The emperor is powerless, a puppet of whichever faction controls Kyoto. Into this melting pot come the first European explorers; bringing guns, religion, and disease. Out of this chaos will emerge only one daimyo, he who will master all the varied skills that make up the art of war; Politics, economics, subterfuge, strategic warfare, and battlefield tactics.

Total War: Three Kingdoms is another installment in the Total War series, developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega. It is the twelfth main game in the series. Like its predecessors, Three Kingdoms is a PC turn-based real-time strategy game, where players control great armies and lead them to victory on vast maps. Game is set in the titular Three Kingdoms period of China’s history, set between years 220–280 AD. The task of the player is to lead one of 11 factions to become the ruling power in China.Gameplay Gameplay mechanics of TW: Three Kingdoms remain mostly unchanged in comparison to other titles in the Total War series, however, the title introduced some changed and revamped the gameplay. Player decides on which factions out of all 11 they want to join. These factions have their respective generals, called Heroes, that possess several unique abilities and personality traits. They are divided into five categories: Champion, Vanguard, Strategist, Commander and Sentinel.Champion is perfect for taking down enemy heroes; Vanguard heroes excel at eliminating common units; Strategists debuff enemies and provide other bonuses; Commanders balance fighting skill and providing buffs and Sentinels can last long in battle against common units and heroes alike. Generals possess independent personalities, ambitions and needs. Player will want to pay attention to those, because not meeting them may have various consequences. One of the new gameplay mechanics is elements based Wu Xing system. In Total War3 Kingdoms every unit is given its elemental attribute: fire, earth, water, wood and metal. These work differently in different areas. For example, fire reduces the cost for military and boosts melee damage. Earth reduces costs of building government units and provides a boost in morale. Water decrease costs of trade buildings and increases ammunition for ranged units. These elemental attributes both support and work against each other. Player’s task will be to discover which element buffs which and which is it weak against.Another new mechanic is the Guanxi. It is a social relations-based mechanic, where the players’ generals will engage in complex relationships, based on past encounters, level of friendliness, jealousy or hostility. These relationships may be positive or negative and cannot be influenced directly by the player.Combat mechanics are similar to those of previous Total War games. On the battlefield, the player can control both the cavalry and the infantry. Players can deploy three general characters but only once per battle. Generals can be commanded separately from the army units and killing enemy generals gives the player unique loot items. Game introduces Dueling as a form of battle, where the player’s and enemy generals engage in one-on-one duels. The duel ends when one of the participants is killed or flees. The game has two distinct modes: Romance and Records. The Romance mode is based on the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. In this mode, due to highly fictional characters of the source material, Generals posses almost inhuman abilities, making them more powerful on the battlefield. The Records mode is more historically accurate. In it generals have no superpowers and cannot be controlled separately from their armies. StoryThe story campaign of Three Kingdoms Total Warbegins in the year 190 AD in the time of the once powerful Han dynasty, now merely a shadow of its former glory. Young emperor’s rule of oppression leads to chaos. In its wake, various warlords raise against the tyrannical ruler and his allied warlord Dong Zhuo, who manipulated the emperor into civil war. The player must side with one of the factions, including those of the famous warlords like Lu Bu, Cao Cao or Liu Bei, and write their own history for China. ReceptionEarly impressions of3 Kingdoms for PC were mostly positive. Critics praised the two game modes, with different gameplay mechanics, as well as the Guanxi system, which added a new layer of complexity to in-game relationships. Ultimately, the game became a major hit amongst strategy gamers which praised its game modes and the setting.

On October 21, 1600, two massive Japanese armies, totaling an estimated 200,000 soldiers armed to the teeth with swords, yari (spears), arrows, muskets, and cannons, faced off on a battlefield near the town of Sekigahara. A bitter fight to the death ensued, and the results would determine the course of Japanese history for the next 250 years. On the battlefield was the warlord Leyasu Tokugawa, a man desiring domain over the entire island of Japan, but standing in his way was Ishida Mitsunari, a warlord controlling vast swaths of western Japan. Moving with his armies from the east, Ieyasu maneuvered into a position at Sekigahara. Leyasu was relying heavily on the legendary Japanese samurai, but contrary to popular belief, the samurai warriors of that era were avid firearm users, and this battle would be no exception, as both armies bristled with muskets and cannons. Leyasu was outnumbered, but he had a trump card: Traitors placed in the enemy army. These treacherous warlords would join Leyasu in the midst of the battle, turning it in his favor. When Leyasu became shogun (military dictator) of Japan, he presided over the beginning of the Tokugawa shogunate, which brought peace and stability to all of Japan if only by ending the constant civil wars. Many changes took place, most notably in the capabilities of the samurai, Japan’s ruling military class, who were no longer active combat participants. Instead, most of these warriors were fighters in name only, ruling, instead, as privileged bureaucrats. They served the Tokugawa Shogunate, a military government that moved to isolate Japan from the rest of the world, for more than two centuries, and military service became the exclusive domain of a privileged warrior class that combined the military with an intricate network of social status and vassalage to feudal lords. As a feudal government, the Tokugawa shogunate split control of state domains under feudal lords known as daimyō. In the 10th year of the Change, the survivors in western Oregon have learned how to live in a world without technology. The city-state of Corvallis has preserved its university, and trade flourishes via riverboats and horse-drawn railways. Under the strong hand of Michael Havel, the Bearkillers hold the lands west of Salem in peace and order. And in the eastern half of the Willamette Valley, the Clan Mackenzie flourishes under the charismatic leadership of Juniper Mackenzie, bard and High Priestess. Together, they have held the Lord Protector, Norman Arminger - the warlord of Portland - at bay. With his dark fantasies of a neofeudal empire, Arminger has extended his power over much of the Pacific Northwest, spreading fear with his knights, castles, and holy inquisition. Even more dangerous, and perhaps Arminger's most powerful weapon of all, is the ruthlessly cunning mind of his consort, Lady Sandra. The tensions between these factions have been building for some time, and the only reason they haven't confronted one another on the battlefield is because Arminger's daughter has fallen into Clan Mackenzie's hands. But Lady Sandra has a plan to retrieve her - a plan that threatens to plunge the entire region into open warfare. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Todd McLaren. Kelly Killjoy is a gun-slinging mercenary and skin flick scream queen on an endless quest for adventure, cash, and a good hard fight in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Fallout Girl (episode 1) After a gang of cannibal marauders raid the local video store, she decides to infiltrate their group in order to steal back the stack of trashy movies. To join up she's going to have to show her loyalty on the battlefield and in the bedroom. If that wasn't enough, there happens to be a cult of all-male monsters who need a fertile woman to help replenish their numbers. Straight to Video (episode 2) The crazy kids at the Pearl Theatre pay the bills by screening their collection of B-movies and shooting a few rowdy sex flicks of their own. Life is good for everybody, until Kelly's jilted ex-lover Grinder shows up, and he happens to be the warlord of a marauder gang known as the Rust Devils. Faced with what could be her last stand, Kelly decides it is time to finally get it on with the mild-mannered mutant who might be packing more heat than even she can handle. Freak Legion (episode 3) With the Pearl Theatre in shambles, Kelly has taken work as a goat-smuggler, until she runs across her old boss Fingers the Clown and takes a particularly steamy trip down memory lane. His wasteland circus is having a bloody territorial dispute with another freak show, and he needs Kelly's gift for violence to even the odds. Before the curtains close Kelly dubiously beats a few locals in a game of cards and is forced to spend a harrowing night locked in the stocks at the center of town, where she is alone, exposed, and at the mercy of bad men. Also includes Lady Wasteland (episode 4) and Frankenstein (episode 5). 1. Language: English. Narrator: Gary Roelofs. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/078420/bk_acx0_078420_sample.mp3.
